Just trying to help, only so much info you can get by description alone. I've had the cowling around the windshield wipers on a previous car come loose at high speed after changing the wiper assembly, it scares the shit out of you and vibrated the entire car.

If it's as violent as you say it would be in a shop being diagnosed were it mine.

    Good luck in your search.

Anytime there has been mention of a "rumble strip" vibration it almost always turns out to be associated with the torque converter. Not saying yours is bad but when or has the transmission fluid been changed?

Read some of Gearcrunchers posts. Might give you some insight into your symptoms. Usually he recommends a flush and an addition of Lubeguard for the converter.

Fluid was never changed or checked, truck has 87,000km and I was thinking of getting it done around the 100k mark but might have to do it asap. I will check that out. Thanks.

Lets look at some Vibration diagnostics . Anytime someone asks a vibration question , I copy and paste this .
I believe there are at minimum at least 12 different vibration issues assosiated with the Tacoma and all the vibrations / shudders get mixed into the same pot leaving members scratching their heads .
Have you greased your driveline ?http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tec...rks-total.html
Do you know how to grease your driveline properly http://aftermarket.federalmogul.com/...%20FAQ%27s.pdf
Have you checked your carrier bearing https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replacing-carrier-bearing.260283/
Does the truck vibrate in park or neutral and does the vibration change with accelarator pedal ?
Does the truck vibrate while holding the brakes and hitting the gas - Automatic ?
Does the truck vibrate in neutral at a stand still ?or coasting in neutral ?
Does the truck vibrate in 4x4 ?
    Does the truck " Only vibrate " from 1st to 2nd gear ? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/vibration-when-accelerating-from-stop-anyone-fixed-it.300155/
Does the truck only vibrate in 2 wheel drive ?https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...differential-bearing-vibration-thread.152173/
Does the truck vibrate with the serpentine belt removed ?
Does the truck vibrate cold or hot ?
Does the truck vibrate if you select nuetral and coast to a slow roll without using the brakes ?
Does the truck vibrate as you are braking ?
Does the truck vibrate with weight in the truck or empty ?
Does the truck vibrate while upshifting ? Have you checked your trans fluid ?
Does the truck vibrate while downshifting ? Have you checked your trans fluid ?
When was your last transmission fluid service ?
Now that you have a lift kit installed the truck vibrates . Did you cancel your drive line angles ?
Have you looked at the condition of your tires ? Toyota says to rotate every 5000 miles .Tacoma tires must be road forced balanced using the Haweka adapter on the tire machine [IMG] tsu00296.pdf
When was the last time you rotated your tires ? Are you using LUG centric aftermarket wheels ? have you considered " HUB centric rings "http://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&key...vptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_7ybe1f1pby_e
Have the balance weights fallen off the tires ?
The proper and only way to test for bad universal joints is with the driveshaft removed . You cant tell if the universal joints are seized or tight spots with the driveshaft on the truck . You may see play in the universal joints , but you wont be able to properly check the u-joints without removing the driveshaft .All it takes to create a vibration is one seized universal cup and there are 4 cups within each joint .
With this said , you cant tell if that cup is seized with the driveshaft connected .
Removing the driveshaft and manipulate each universal joint by hand from side to side feeling for tight spots as you go is the only way to check for bad u joints
If you beleive its bad motor mounts or transmission mounts , grab a big pry bar and pry at the mounts to see if the rubber is torn or weak .

Thank you for the input Gearcruncher, seems I have checked off everything in that list except for checking trans fluid because I don't know how. Being in different gears don't effect the vibration though, with the auto trans, in Drive, 4gr or 3gr it doesn't effect the vibration, going the same speed during the vibration. Only thing that changes the vibration is really speed. RPM has nothing to do with it.

I have a feeling this problem is going to be tough to figure out.. lol

Have you taken your truck by a transmission shop for a free road test ?
Those guys diagnose your type of issue every day and can usually tell you exactly whats going on just by driving your truck and its absolutely free.
Try tapping your brake pedal gently when you feel the vibration . This manipulates the brake switch and turns your converter clutch on and off .
Reading through all posts and your explanation , the best I can do from a keyboard is describe your problem as being a drive-line shimmy .
Out of round brake drums , unbalanced driveshaft under load ,not with the truck jacked up with free wheels spinning .
Possible twisted frame , cross member improperly mounted or bent , front sub frame out of alignment .
We can keep going here , there are all kinds of things to still be diagnosed

This makes me 95% sure that it is in the rear of the truck. If something is loose up front you'll feel it in the steering.

I am also going to rule out wind if it makes your whole cab shake. If it happens at a certain speed and goes away if you slow down, I would guess that is some sort of resonance. Meaning that something in your rear end is a little loose or out of whack and it will only trigger at a certain speed. Since you have a lift, I'd go over everything you changed in the back and make sure that it is all tight, snug and in-line.

In the back I only put an inch block and longer shocks, checked it over and everything is good. I though it was in the rear end too but with the rear end jacked up on the axle and driving speeds that would usually vibrate I can't recreate the vibration which makes me believe it comes from the front.

    Thanks for the reply.

Hmmmm that might not find it since it is not weighted, but if there was a problem I wouldn't know what else to suggest to find it.

It can't really be the rear drive shaft, reason I say that is because I had it off and went for a test ride in 4HI and the vibration was the exact same, if I can't do anything my self soon I will be bringing it somewhere for sure.

    Thanks for the reply.

Make sure all axle flanges, and hubs are true. Just had a 1 ton fire rescue truck in that they managed to bend the front hub extension. 20lbs of cast iron.

My final guess is the lift blocks. I am guessing that the blocks did something to the geometry of your rear axle and it is causing it to vibrate at a certain speed. Luckily, you can test this without spending any money.
