License plate light Disable while In Reverse (DIR)

I installed the plug-n-play bed lights on my 21 and the black plug is the one that hooks up to them.

 

@daveeasa that makes a ton of sense for the OEM bed lights.

@MaxT - if possible can you take a picture of where you found the 2 pin connector or what your DIR setup looks like under the light? That might add a ton of clarity. Appreciate this thread a ton!

 

@playdixie took a ton of photos in his post here. NOTE that you don't have to remove the reverse bulb itself, just the connector to the bulb. Also, if you're at all worried about, throw some towels or a moving blanket on the floor/tailgate to decrease chances that a slip will incur impact/scratches to your taillight. My truck was used so I was kind of loosey goosey but some of you with 2021's might want to just be extra cautious with those babies b/c a busted taillight is no fun at all.

 

Thanks a lot to everyone who pitched in to sort this out. Good news is, no changes to the DIR itself, and hopefully some fun other projects with the BD S1 reverse light down the road by tapping those bed lights for those who have them.

I will buckle down this week, especially tonight. It's work time indeed! No more black connector excuses, time to finish these 30 and get them in good hands so I can get going on the next batch. Hoping for Wednesday night heat shrinking and form opening to top 30.

Oh yeah, I did receive the extra relays I was waiting on. So, parts-wise I'm only waiting on relay connectors (I think I have 30 of those but not much more). So we're in good shape on supplies.

 

@daveeasa what's this BD S1 reverse light you speak of? I've kinda lost track of this after I got mine installed lol.

 

This guy. Also known as the next thing which is fun to spend money on which most of us probably don't actually need.

 

wrong, it is needed... just part of the package. now if I can figure out how to use the natika backup camera in the rear instead of the OEM

 

Ah! Another very necessary @MESO addition.

 

Electrical is easy, physical could be easy if you don't use same location as OEM site.

All of these tested OK last night. Note your spot may have shifted by one as @Dubnali from the MIA list is back in on this batch. Also if you are 31-35 you have a good shot at this batch based on the past. So hang tight.

I’ll tag individuals later today. And I still have to heat shrink and pack them up but that part isn’t going to change the behavior and it can be done as part of the process for labeling with postage.

 

cool, so do we just send paypal to the email provided on the order form (google doc) or should i expect to see an invoice?

 

Fill out the google from and pay via paypal or venmo. I do not have a mechanism to generate an invoice, but since it's a fixed amount for US shipping it doesn't seem like that's a necessary step. I may try to improve on that in the future, it is a little less seamless than a real storefront (this is really the only product I'm doing right now.)

Based on what we have collectively concluded, contrary to some of the weekend chatter, you should be fine. I’m waiting on @TacoBucc11 to confirm he is squared but at least one other 2021 owner successfully installed MESO total tails which use the same male reverse connector as the DIR harness.

If you want to be sure, open your taillight and confirm the reverse bulb connector is the grey one pictured.
