The dealer did an oil change on my 2015 2.7L. Tacoma and the oil filter they installed is a 90915-YZZG2. This filter appears to be a replacement for a 90915-YZZG1 which is for a 2008-2010 Highlander with a 3.3L. 6 cyl. Isn't the correct filter for the Tacoma a 90915-YZZD1 or YZZD3?

One year ago the dealer did a pre sale change on my truck and installed a 90915-YZZD3 as you suggest.

I use Purolator Pure One or Wix filters (for many years, many marquees, including my SoloII car). When buying some supplies, I noticed the cross reference book showed the Purlator number to be the exact same as my '04 Highlander 3.3. Which is quite handy for me!

    1) if it fits and doesn't leak, I don't think the number matters. P/Ns on disposable items will change/supersede many times over the life of the vehicle.

    2) Toyota doesn't make filters. They contract with a low bidder, and they get painted/labeled as Toyota. So no need to obsess over 'OE' parts.

My 2006 1GRFE V6 came with a large filter. My dealer sold me a G1 for my first oil change.

I switched to the D3 after being enlightened by great forums like this one.

I asked the Toyota parts guy about the filters and supposedly the "G" in the part # (YZZG2) means it has a pre lubed (greased) "O" ring on the filter. So maybe the "D" means Dry or Denso (the manufacturer)? Why does Toyota have to make things so complicated??

I have a 2013 2.7. d1 is made for 2.7L and that's what the manual will tell you. When I was getting my toyotacare oil changed they always put the d3 which works just fine, its just a little longer so "more filter". When I did my first oil change after my toyotacare was done, I switched back to D1. Next oil change, im thinking of using D3.

Had a similar question last year

I was searching for an answer to this too. I went to the parts counter and got 5 filters, they gave me the YZZG2's. I said I don't think that is right and the guy said they switched the filter or filter number for 2.7s to that. I was back a couple days later and a different guy was working. I asked him about it and he said the same thing. I have one on there now and it is working fine, although I might go to the D3's after these ones are used up.

I wish I would have remembered to look at what came from the factory. I was just so happy by the time I got it off I wasn't even thinking about part numbers.
