Hey all, brand new here. I’ve tried to search around to no avail for information on how to retrofit the
AEM 50-1200 E-85 320 Lph @ 43psi in-tank fuel pump’ into my 2008 Taco? I’ve read nothing but good things about the mod and am wondering if anyone knows how to do it? My truck is showing all the symptoms of a faulty fuel pump or fuel pump resistor? It starts for a few seconds then dies like the fuel is instantly shut off. I remove the battery cable for 30 seconds to reset and then it starts and runs until it decides to die again, could be a day, week, or month? No idiot lights coming on either. The only other thing is that there’s a slight droaning of power @ about 2200 rpm’s when hard on the gas coming through and out of a turn. I’ve read on here that it was a fuel pressure issue and need all the advice I can get. Is the AEM route the way to go? And if so, how? TY All

Without a gauge hooked up its hard to say. But they do fail like this, and we see the 05-10 models starting to need pumps slowly.

I would stay with what I know, and thats OEM/Denso. The AEM looks good, but I have no experience with them.

Thanks! I just went over that whole thread and it doesn’t seem that bad! Just some plastic cutting and a hose clamp. Did you run an in-line filter? I thought the sock is the filter in these trucks? And does that URD kit come with everything (minus the pump) to do the mod? Thank you for your time and knowledge!

Bishop84 Thank You! Yes it’s been a slow death for mine. It’s just gotten to the point where I’m done resetting it lol. If I go stock it will be a Denso. I’ve heard these AEM’s actually give a tiny bit more power with the increased fuel pressure??

Yes i am running an external inline filter, but there is also a sock that goes on the pickup for the pump in the tank. The urd kit comes with everything you need to get it knocked out

Also the urd kit uses a rubber hose for the high pressure pickup but the thread below has a good upgrade for that.

Perfect! I see you have the 2TR-FE, its gonna all be the same for my 4.0? Are all the urd kits the same for the 2nd gen? Better yet, where do you recommend I get the install kit? TY

Both the 2TR-FE and your 1GR-FE use the same fuel tank/pump, so yes the URD kits are the same for all 2nd gens

URD sells the fuel pump kit that has a filter and everything you need to get rolling. Id get that from them and then buy the better fuel hose from summit racing

Thank You Robert! I appreciate all your good help man! I’ll be getting everything ordered up and in and then pull the bed and get to work. Does the URD kit come w a new tank gasket? I’ve heard they leak if you don’t change it out and use some gas resistant silicone? and That should be it for now. I know Time is free but priceless... Good Man TY

No the urd kit doesnt come with a tank gasket. Itd be cheap insurance to replace that since accessing the tank is a bit of a pain. Id go with a toyota one if you are going to replace it

I would go to the dealer and grab a new gasket, not sure if I would use any goop on it though unless it's recommended by Toyota.

I have always had good luck with Walbro fuel pumps, but I have used a few AEM's boost management systems and they seem to have a good and reliable product!

    Good luck with the mod!

Thanks Brother man! Maybe I won’t use the goop then...
