Some bold claims assertions and predictions about what Toyota knows, doesn't know or is planning to do. Care to share credentials that back these claims up? Do you work for Toyota? Do you have anything in writing to back this up? Links? Not trying to poke you in the chest. Just curious where you're getting your information, or whether it is just a collection of hearsay, gossip and second-hand info collected from the Forum.

Nice summary, but you missed the elephant in the room, the ~2000rpm vibration:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ad-before-buying.397620/page-76#post-12468219

It is not speed related vibration, nor it is driveline vibration. It is most likely engine/exhaust related vibration that manifests itself as buzzing gas pedal, floorboard and/or steering wheel. It is speculated it is related to Atkinson/Otto cycle switchover.

I think your reputable source within Toyota is wrong about the low ATF. It affects VIN starting with 5 also such as mine. Of course I just added the ATF myself and went about my merry way.

    Just IMHO
I would think people with constant vibrations have easiest recourse action.
I am pretty sure vibrations are considered health hazard. Prolonged exposure to constant vibrations could result in nerve damage, So I would think people would be eager to fix that, and Toyota would be eager to do so, way way before somebody gets numbness in their hands, goes to doctor and starts class action. Nerve damage class action would probably bury Toyota financially.

This should be a sticky to warn people what they are getting themselves into. I keep hearing people say the gen 2 had issues when it was launched but the gen 3 issues seem widespread and consistent to a level I have never seen.

The sad part is that unlike the big 3 us automakers, Toyota's flagship truck is their mid-size truck. The Tacoma sells in more volume than the Tundra. You would think they would put an emphasis on QDR with the new Tacoma. They only had 10 years to come up with something better Perhaps give it a BETTER engine than the gen 2? I don't expect a V8 or a diesel in the Tacoma, but some increased capability would be nice. People see the 6800 lbs towing figure and think it's a better motor. It gives you power but only when you make it scream and most people don't want to make their engine scream daily.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
My 06 has 1 or 2 crossmembers debonded from the hood but I don't notice vibrations. Then again the MTs and drive line vibe at low speeds might throw off my balance.

Good luck with whatever you're working on OP. You might be able to get @gearcruncher in here to give you the low down on WS ATF too!

Except there are many folks who don't experience any of the above mentioned issues.

That said, this is a great thread to keep all common complaints and what to do about them.
