Hey folks, I'm looking for a good solution to provide USB power to my back seat. We are heading out on vacation and will be driving about 10-12 hours there and the same coming home.

I want to be able to provide power for three tablets for when the kids bored so I don't have to explain myself to the police when they start fighting. :)

I think my easiest solution is to run some wire straight off the battery with a fuse, so it charges their tablets even if the truck is stopped for when we are at a restaurant, etc.

I did it in my rear console, super easy. Grounded under the shifter console, and I forgot what it's connected to in the fuse box. But it's always live.

What Unchained said. Just use the 12 volt in the console.

Don't fuck with trying to wire something to the battery. Plenty of threads about how that doesn't work a lot of the time.

    Done.

My truck came with a dual usb on the back of the console.

My '19 didn't. That's why I'm asking for an option to meet my needs that others have experience with.

Your 19 should have 2 ports under armrest rated at 2.1A each

Mine didn't either. I don't ride with passengers very often, but having 2 rear-seat outlets would be convenient.

That's a dealer add-on if it came with your truck. It doesn't come from the factory with those, just the ones inside the console.

I have a 2016, so I don't have USB ports in the center console, but there *is* a power outlet there. So @MacNobody, get yourself a 3-way usb power adapter, like this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Bralon-Charger-2-Pack-Identification-iPhone/dp/B075CJMJYJ

and just run the charger cables under the armrest and out the back, around the hinges. There's enough gap back there that the console should close without resistance or pinching the wires.

edit: if you want to build the port in, you can probably just extend the wiring from that outlet.

    None as of yet
There a 12v plug in the center console box. Just run a USB adapter with long charge cables. much easier than drilling a hole in your console and trying to run wiring. Won't be hot all the time but the tablets batteries should last for your pit stops especially I've they've been plugged in the entire time driving.

@Bunk Moreland One of my favorite characters in the show, by the way. Currently working through season 3, can't believe I missed this show back in the day, but glad I found it!

One of the best shows ever made. Buy it on DVD! Seriously. You'll be glad you did, and you'll hate yourself if don't.

"So, you gonna cut and run on the Bunk? That shit ain't right, Jimmy."

    Here's the original thread.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-ac-outlet-in-cab-and-400w-anytime.505598/page-5

I did the 400W mod and bought this below, spliced the AC grommet into wires after the converter, cut hole in back of center console, put everything back together. There's a ton of these grommets with different USB ratings, you don't have to buy this exact one.
