yeah. at the end of the video i linked, it mentioned the issue with transmissions is the great need for presses. you'll probably need to visit a machine shop to have the gears pressed off and new ones on.

5th gear didn't want to come off but when it did it came out with the blaze of glory!!!(which I did get the gear off unharmed) I have found some housings for about $600 but i think id rather pay $1100 with a $250 core for a reman with warranty, instead of paying $600 for just the housing plus the $250 for bearings and seals!

Are there any pick-n-pulls in your area that might have Tacomas or 4Runners? The yards I go to only charge $100 for a complete transmission.

Sorry about the late reply . I . have repaired many of these transmissions . Have you called around to trans shops in your area ? Those intermediate plates should be a dime a dozen by now . Jeeps used the same trans if that helps . May want to talk to the jeep guys as well

Are you in GA? I have a whole working W59 for sale here in WNC. Make me a reasonable offer - you could pull the plate if you're dedicated to your rebuild, or just use the whole transmission. I could possibly meet you somewhere in GA to hand it off, but not sure about that.

I'm just outside Milwaukee. And yeah, AFAIK, '95-'04 Tacos have the W59, the W56 preceded it. I didn't know jeeps have the same one!?

I've got my W59 sitting in my garage but I was planning on getting the gears a deep cryo treatment to hopefully help stand up to the abuse.

It's a working transmission/t-case with 140k on it. Came out of a 2002 regular cab, had it in my '96 extra cab for 20k miles while I rebuilt the original transmission. There is some whine from the countershaft bearings, but not any more than most every W59 I've owned. Yours for $300. It's just sitting in my storage unit about 15-20 minutes from Asheville, NC. I would love to see someone put it to use.
