    Hey, thanks for reading!

This thread is mostly so I can keep track of the work/money I have spent and mods I want, it's very link/image heavy, be warned...

Where she sits now as of January 2018:
    20180115_161153.jpg 20180115_160815.jpg 20180115_161217.jpg

    History:
I told my wife exactly the type of truck I wanted one friday night in February 2016, so she started searching online and found one a few hours later. The next morning we were there looking at a Tacoma sitting in a tiny 15 car lot in the small city of New Braunfels, TX.

    2004 Toyota Tacoma Xtracab SR5, 3.4L V6, 5-Spd 4x4, Lunar Mist Metallic paint.

One previous owner, 90% of service records back to 2005, Completely stock (save for the Firestone
Dueler AT 265/70R16). I had it taken to a big Toyota dealer and the head mechanic took a look at it on the lift with me...

"It's been babied" was his remark after doing a once over with a flashlight through the engine bay and under the whole truck.

It was at 135k miles at the time, I test drove it in a parking lot that day in 1st / 2nd gear only (I drove stick like a nervous virgin) I liked it!

I went home and slept on it, talked to the bank and did some adult money stuff. Given the circumstances I was going to take the risk...and signed that papers the next day. She was mine... Just had to learn how to drive stick to get her home...
    :burnrubber:

As I was about to pull off the lot a gentleman showed up with the full asking price ready to be transferred from his bank, we talked for a minute and he said that he saw it online too and was there to buy it and drive it to Mexico that day...

    She's a rescue.

Pics are a few months after purchase, tool box is the biggest mod in these images.

    The plan:
I want to have a daily driver that is extremely capable off road and will excel in primitive camping environments. Traveling across Texas, camping with the wife and dog, and tackling some ruff trails is the target. (pun intended) Budget is extremely tight but I'm luckily a metal fabricator and extremely DIY orientated, so ~90% of the work will be done by myself. I want safety to be #1, so no skimping on critical components that will leave me hurt/stranded. I'm located in the Texas hill country so the entire state is within a days drive and I can select from beaches, swamps, deserts, grass lands, steep hills, etc.

This truck is capable (without any mods at all) to go almost anywhere, but where is the fun in that? I like to tinker too much to let things be...

It's going to be a long journey these next few years, but I can and will learn, as much as possible from the communities that are around. I look forward to meeting new friends!:fistbump:

Awesome. The exact truck I want as well; been looking for months and can't find it in CA with low miles.

Yesterday I noticed that a boot on my outer tie rod was blown on the left side...
    20180115_163141.jpg
    Right side was bad too...
    20180115_163337.jpg

This was my first time doing tie rods so I learned quite a bit.

    20180115_183750.jpg 20180115_194516.jpg 20180115_194606.jpg 20180115_194749.jpg
So after the new ones were bolted & torqued back on I looked at the wheels and could see my alignment was completely screwed in the process. :annoyed:
There was an attempt to keep the stick out the same but it's off a few threads one each side so my tires are toe out pretty badly...

Well now the plan is to hobble it over to the alignment shop 10 minutes down the road and have them fix it.:help:

    LOL.

Already subscribed! Very well made videos.

I Have a few plans to build my own armor, but I need more. Any ideas of smaller things that I can build out of aluminum are needed. I can't build massive things like bumpers/racks but smaller things are ok.

Did you end up needing 1/4" wheel spacers for those Pro comps? I initially bought those wheels. But they rubbed the caliper. Ended up with 98 series.
