2nd Gen Routine Maintenance Thread Conglomeration

This is my ultra bunker busting super fantastic list of routine maintenance procedures and intervals for the 2nd Generation models with the 4.0L engine. All maintenance items with an asterisk (*) are what I do and what I recommend after quite a bit of research and reading, all those without an asterisk follow the Toyota recommended maintenance per our owners manual. Note I own an Automatic and dont know when one would check a manual's clutch etc.

*1,000 Miles - Replace engine motor oil and oil filter
*-Coat underbody with fluid film to prevent rust

*-check parking brake cable tension
*- Use fuel system cleaner 1 tank before oil change (I use Techron, but anything with PEA is good)

*-Replace power steering fluid: No good write up, simply remove old fluid when engine is cold, replace with new, drive for a bit, wait to cold, change and refill, repeat until fluid in reservoir is clean.

Yeah, I decided to write this up because I always had to remind myself of what was due next, I figured it might help anyone else who is doing all the maintenance themselves. Hopefully I'll be dead before this truck is following the above lol.

Speaking of maintenance, anyone have a list of zerks in the 2nd Gen?

 

Zerks are in the same spots as the third gen I de believe. The 2nd and 3rd gens share a lot of components.

 

Nice write up, but change rear diff, front diff, and t-case oil at 15K ?

That is way too early and a waste.

Just me being lazy about it...

 

what about air injection filter?

 

Manual says when towing or off roading to do it at 5k intervals. I feel 15K is a good middle ground.

Members have reported issues when messing with the air injection filter. Most pump failures occur when water, not dust, gets past the filter.
