9 times out of 10 my distance to empty shows 298 miles after I fill up. I had a shop install some ditch lights yesterday. They unhooked the battery and that number has changed. Does the truck “Re-learn” my driving habits again and eventually go back to the 298 mile range? It’s showing 300 miles to empty now even at 3/4 tank. It’s actually closer to the 3/4 mark, just the angle I guess.

unhooking the battery for a while does a reset, I wouldn't be worried about 2 mile difference. It will probably work itself out after a while. 300 miles doesn't seem like a lot either for a full tank

It is an estimate based on recent driving. Mine consistently bounces between 415 and 385. It just depends on what it saw recently. It should also be taken with a grain of salt. It can easily go down faster than your odometer is reading based on driving or if you go below 1/4 tank.

It’s saying 300 miles left with almost 1/4 tank already gone.

I am lucky if mine reads over 280 after fill up.

    Ignore the ID10T DIC information.

Use your basic math skills to determine your range.

Example: My Overall mpg average (1 year) is 19 mpg. Therefore a 20 gallon tank will give me about a 380 mile range.

Long distance trip planning will need a fill about every 350 miles. I also know that each 1/4 tank is roughly 5 gallons or 100 miles. The last 1/4 seems to be a small 1/4, so I consider this as 50 mile range to next fill.

Knowing some simple facts gives me the ability to do rough math in my head. 5 gallons is about 100 miles.

I'm glad I just have a plain old gauge.

    Sometimes (most?) simple is better.

The computer estimates miles to empty based upon your historical gas mileage. I average around 18 MPG so my truck tells me that I have around 335 miles to empty after each fill up.

Use a calculator and note pad to figure out gas mileage , you don't need an onboard computer to tell you ... Who , What , When Why and How with your driving habits

I always check mine on a calculator. Just thought it was weird how it started giving me an extra 70 miles or so. You would be surprised how many people don’t know how to calculate gas mileage.

No, I wouldn't. Many people in this age are crippled without their cell phone.

Thinking, logic, knowledge and learning are becoming lost skills.
Many drivers are unable to back a vehicle without a backup camera.
Parallel parking is only possible with the vehicle doing the parking.
Changing lanes has become dangerous because drivers won't look due to reliance on the Nanny systems.

I used to get 349 on a fill up, but after a long road trip down south, that's up to around 360.

Overall, I take it to be a guesstimate because once I hit 100 miles to go, the number falls pretty rapidly. Then again, most of the time I top off at 1/2 a tank.

Mine always says 320 to empty after a fill up (have about 11,500 miles on the truck). I decided to check it this time around with the typical driving I always do - I have just over half a tank and have driven 185 miles according to my trip odometer....

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
What does it really matter - you have that older style gauge just to the right?
