So... what happened to the driver running light lens?

lol it actually broke like 6 months ago. But, I did that turn signal relocation to that marker light housing. I wasn't a huge fan of that relocation so I've been trying to figure out a better solution and I didn't want to replace that light assembly until I figured that... I've just been lazy...

What don't you like about it? I've been thinking about it even with my stock bumper because I feel like the front-facing turn signals aren't that visible to most motorists and having them on the corners as well would be a good improvement.

Since a light wasn't meant to be there, the reflector design of that housing doesn't work well. It's actually pretty hard to see that blinker in that location. And, if the side marker lights (housed in that same housing) are on, it's almost impossible to see the blinker. I want to have a single, dual filament light in that housing that acts as a running light, but when you turn on the blinker, it turns off the running light and just activates the blinker. Still trying to figure out how I want to accomplish that, but it's been lower on my priority list.

I agree with your assessment. What you want to do is a "switchback" LED style. One of three options:
    - Two sets of LEDs on the "bulb" - one white for your running lights and one amber for the turn. Tap into the bumper "turn" signal line for the amber to make them flash (and automatically disable the white when flashing).
    - Trailer harness hack like this (electronically it's not bad, but I'd rather not have that extra stuff running around personally): https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...n-signal-with-trailer-light-converter.497969/ - skip to ~2:50 of the video and turn the volume down.
    - I vaguely remember this option - I think there is a VLED (brand) of turn signal that you'd have to modify the housing to fit, but is amber for parking lights and also amber for flashing turn signal, but it knows to disable one so that it's a true flash on/off when the turn signal is activated.

For the first option, you would have to convert the existing hole for a 168//194 bulb for a 3157 and then modify the wiring for that so you could run this: https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...smd-led-tower-a-type-wedge-retrofit-car/1916/ -- SuperBrightLEDs is having a 10% off sale through Sep 3 (tomorrow).

    Also, check out these threads:

    09/19/2019-09/23/2019 -- Rimrocker/Moab

Well, that's another Moab trip in the books. As it goes, we still haven't come even close to fully experiencing everything Moab has to offer. So as this trip has come to an end, it is time to start planning to go back next year.

    Day 1:

For this trip, my friend Tony and I decided to run Rimrocker out to Moab. We left early Thursday morning and got to the trailhead around 12:30-1:00.

To end the first day, we setup camp at The Ballpark Campground. It's a wonderful campground that was setup and is maintained by the Rimrocker people. Huge props for an incredibly clean campground. Since it was a Thursday, we were the only ones at the campground, and really the only ones running Rimrocker.

    Day 2:

Realizing we had 90 miles left of Rimrocker to complete on Friday, we got a relatively early start because we promised to be in Moab around 1:00-2:00.

Unfortunately we ran into some problems with the FJ Cruiser. Tony was getting some clanking after flexing over an obstacle and while we were looking for the issue, we started smelling burning rubber/grease. Both issues turned out super minor. The clanking was from the rear sway bar that decided to exit itself from the mounts, and the burning smell came from grease that spun off the recently greased u-joints, onto the exhaust.

Unfortunately, we underestimated how quickly we'd be able to finish Rimrocker. At the pace we were at, we probably wouldn't have made it into Moab until 4:00ish. My friend Rob, who had come up from Albuquerque, arrived in Moab around 12:30 and was sitting around waiting for us. So, right before we hit La Sal Pass on Rimrocker, we decided to split off the trail and hit the highway to get into Moab at a more reasonable time. After meeting up with Rob, we headed out to Gemini Bridges which I feel is a nice little intro to Moab.

I also wanted to try to recreate the pic of my Tacoma's first trip out to Moab. I couldn't remember the exact framing but it's close enough...

Luckily along Gemini Bridges we found camp in what ended up being a super cool spot.

    Day 3:

For the third day we were ambitious and wanted to do Hells Revenge and Fins and Things... Ended up only doing Hells Revenge and only part of Hells Revenge due to unfortunate but predictable circumstances.

Rob recently acquired a GX 470. As such, it's basically stock except for slightly larger tires. Part way through Hells Revenge, just before Hells Gate, he overextended one of the rear bags and it blew apart. At first it seemed like we could get it back together, but without being able to drop the axle and pull more shit out, we couldn't get it back together. Instead, we cut and plugged the air line going to the blown bag and ran just one inflated bag. Unfortunately, due to this we decided to take the alternate route to bypass the back half of Hells Revenge and get to the exit sooner.

It was slow-going navigating the limping GX out of Hells Revenge but we managed it without any damage.

Luckily Rob has been planning on ditching the stock air junk for a lift. This just accelerated that process.

We ended the day by camping out at The Ledges Campground. It was ok.

    Day 4:

Rob had to head out with his broken truck due to work stuff but Tony and I continued on to a more chill day. We decided to hit up Potash Road and Shafer Trail to see some cool views.

To end the last day around Moab, we found a SICK dispersed camp spot. Definitely marking this one for the future.

Started the process of taking apart the camping set up. Planning to really switch it up for next season. The RTT was nice but I'm not sure it's the setup for me.

I threw the tent on the E30 for a trip out to Virginia for a big E30 event. Unfortunately the night before I left I found an oil leak from the head gasket that prevented me from going... so now it just sits...

Definitely looking forward to going for a simpler setup on the truck. Besides that, I have a bunch of maintenance to take care of this winter...

Also, I got some photos of the Moab trip from a friend:

Looks like a great build so far! Love the E30! My buddy had one a few year back that he tracked, that car would zip around the track, it was a blast to drive. Sadly someone rear ended him at a stoplight and destroyed it. He moved to the Clown Shoe and hasn't looked back since.

Random.. Do you know what hitch you have? When my frame was replaced, Toyota threw my hitch away due to rust and I need to get another and like how yours sits higher.

The hitch is actually just the factory one. The truck had the hitch installed without the rest of the elusive tow package for some reason.

There was no full tow package for the first gens. Just an orange fan clutch and hitch. Maybe wiring harness that plugs in depending at what point it was installed In the factory/dealer process.

That's what I was referring to. Unless it was replaced, my truck didn't get the orange fan clutch.

Isn't the heavy duty, "towing package" fan clutch the green one? I thought the orange one was the light duty fan clutch.

what does PORT mean when our trucks were made at NUMMI in Fremont, CA (now Tesla factory)?

Yes, sorry you are correct. I was confusing my memory of what I had, which IS the orange and NOT the “towing” one.

Where did you find an equipment list for your truck? I don't have the original window sticker for mine and was curious to see.
