New to this form. I agree this looks awesome! With the 7600 it shows on Pioneers website that the screen can be moved forward and back, could this be a method to place the screen flush? rather then modify the brackets?

I'm quite interested in this set up and and like what you have done to make it look as stock as possible.

I was not able to get it as flush as stock. The unit is just a little too long for that. It needs some room at the rear for the wiring.

My install, was leaving the original oem setup of the unit. It comes screwed back as far as it can go. I eventually cut a chunk out of the white wire chase so that I could install a 90 degree usbC connector. Without cutting the raceway, I agree with the above comment that the unit has to sit out a little more. making this notch in the raceway allows the 90 to not touch anything behind. I still feel it better to purchase the 6600. Seems like the 6600 design is superior for flush dash mounting. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, and I would be saving some $$$ also! I do find it strange that the Crutchfield site it is saying the 6600 does not fit my vehicle. On the larger TW form on this unit it clearly looks like it fits. I do have the model with the JBL set up, not sure if that could be the issue.

In order to control the volumes etc from the steering wheel, iDatalink Maestro is a MUST, correct? or it is ok to control without it?

I believe so, yes. The Maestro unit gets flashed accordingly so the steering wheel buttons work and have a function. I'm not sure anyone has installed this on a Tacoma without using Maestro, and I'd very much recommend getting it.

The idatalink maestro rr or rr2 is the best way to retain all controls. I would not use anything else! It also retains all of the oem settings like adjusting what button presses on the key fob do and drl and light timing. Best method of install available!!

Crutchfield got new stock in a week or two ago. I went ahead and ordered mine today, and ordered the Maestro off of eBay since it was $40-50 cheaper. It should all get to me sometime next week, so the following weekend will likely be the install. I'll post any issues I have with it.

Good luck with the install! Getting rid of Entune is the greatest thing ever.

Well, I got everything in, but haven't started the install yet. I programmed the Maestro last night. I started looking at the main thread on the install. So I have the non-premium head unit, and my bezel will be too small. I could cut that shit with a dremel, but that would probably look like ass... so I went ahead and ordered a Premium Entune bezel so it will look cleaner.

If I get bored Friday (I don't work Fridays), I'll bust out the dremel and hack up the old bezel... I don't figure it will have any value after I get the replacement. If I can make it work and not look like ass, I'll pass the new bezel on to someone else.

Agree to that! I have mine installed and all from Crutchfield, great customer service and I love the Pioneer unit.

Got the unit installed today after receiving the Entune Premium bezel. It went pretty smoothly... though I forgot the stupid radio antenna adapter. And for some reason the head unit isn't dimming when I turn on the headlights. I know I connected that wire!!

I received mine today. Waiting on the maestro. Will hunt in the thread as I remember reading something about a right angle usb adaptor I should get. Mounted the screen to the brain but that's about all I can do for now unless I start grinding on the factory mounting brackets or running the antenna. I have no idea what the usb-c cable is about, is that maybe for wired carplay if no factory usb-a jack? I assume I'll just heat shrink over the antenna power lead. Kinda sick that it has a mute out. I'm guessing the maestro takes factory camera in and provides video out. Also have no idea what the rca to 3.5mm adaptor was for, I'm guessing aux in but then that would have to be from the maestro massaging the 3.5mm factory input and providing rca output?

It'll probably make a lot more sense once I have the maestro.

EDIT: read the main thread, blue antenna is required for fm even though we don't have power antennas so that's the one 3 way connection to make. Also seems possible to drill out the dimple and that then serves as pilot hole in the factory brackets. Two wires are left open, the yellow green and yellow black, then orange dimmer to orange / white. I'll maybe try to go back and find the 3 or 4 best posts in that thread for OP to consider linking to. Tons of noise about software bypass.

It may be dimming and you arent noticing because it is such a minor change. Mine slowly dims after putting on the headlights but I feel like its still not enough. Its one of my biggest complaints with this unit cause it still seems very bright while driving at night.

You wont need the USB-C cable, just put a USB-C to USB-A adapter on the back of the unit and then your factory USB-A can connect to it for wired carplay.

You can turn the dimming down in the settings of the HU. I turned mine down all the way. It’s perfect now at night and not to bright.

Anyone knows if this will fit a 2017 TRD Sport DC that came with the premium not JBL system? According to Crutchfield’s website it won’t. But wondering if anyone here has gotten it to work ? I’ve read a bunch of posts in a couple of different threads but haven’t been able to find the answer.

    thanks.
