I was in a NAPA last week shooting the breeze with the counter guy and Tacomas came up. We walked out in the parking lot and he started sharing good info that he had picked up through the years about them.

I told him that a complete brake job was on the list and he stated, "You should really consider a rear disc conversion". I remembered favorably the days of converting my street rod over and its benefits.

So what's out there as far as kits go? Is this a worthwhile mod $$$ vs. benefit? If so who makes the better complete kit for conversion?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I know what I would do if I wanted rear disc brakes.

I don`t but i would find a Complete 4Runner axle that way i have the parking brake and can find parts easy

Simple to install the pads for leaf springs at least for me.

Very interesting, is everything the same L x W, etc. ect.? This happens to me all the time. I run into Walmart for a gallon of milk and come out with two shipping carts full. As anyone posted an in-depth NO HOW on the matter?

2.7L taco looking to do a rear disk conversion.... lol.

Go out, find a straight set of paved road n slam on the brakes, ill bet you that the rear axle locks up before the fronts. You do not need more braking power, and you will never be able to utilize rear disks as needed for towing with a 2.7L or a 4.0L v8.

I looked into this a like 10 years ago and it was a simple swap . Ist gen Tacoma to 99 4Runner

NOW i have no idea it might take research on the newer 4 Runners if they grew like the Tacoma`s

Totally pointless. If you want upgraded braking get a BBK for the front. Converting the rear isn’t worth the expense or hassle.

I agree with these two gentlemen. Not worth the time, effort or expense. But if you like to throw money away go for it. It's your truck and money.

Rear disc conversion from sos or anyone else includes t4r calipers and parking brake set up...so why would you waste money on an entire axle from a 5 link suspension that would have to be heavily modified to fit a taco ?

No, it’s a really bad idea. The conversion kits give you everything you need.

Here we go again ...the 500th rear disc conversion thread with folks that have zero personal experience regurgitating crap they have read from other equally inexperienced people. The rear disc conversion does make a substantial difference, there ...at least one person with real world personal experience has provided input to counterbalance the BS.

Or are you simply telling yourself that to justify the time and money you wasted?

I converted mine not for better braking I just wanted brakes that wouldn’t fill up with mud and sand while off-roading

Also you will need a booster off of a sequoia. The stock Tacoma one isn’t meant for rear disk brakes

Disc is good because it allows for drift brake. To help rotate the rear whether on dirt, pavement, etc.

Most people don't get them because they are pussies and don't enjoy their life

I am disappointed with the $2k price tag of SOS concepts kit.
For a so-called cheap old commonplace basic Japanese pickup truck,
it should not cost $2k to slap on a fucking $30 caliper and $30 rotor

You can buy the adapter plates and look at getting the actual brake parts off of a salvaged vehicle.

Yeah I don’t understand the insane price. I put my own kit together for like $200

I copied trail gears brackets. It’s been awhile but I think it was Chevy 1500 rotors and Monte Carlo calipers. Had pirtek make the brake lines. I lost my parking brake
