Which seal you talkign about? there are 2 (3 if you count o ring), if you have pre-runner you need one (2 if you count o-ring) I believe. For you that would be seal that goes in between bearing and hub (the piece with 6 wheel studs) there is another seal between spindle and CV and thats the one you would not need because 2wd uses a cap.

I got all mine from Rock Auto. If that o-ring looks good just clean everything up and re-use it. It should be in good shape still.

Generally rubber parts are non reusable because once they seat they change shape, and when they get old they become brittle. I never reuse them. It's not worth it. They there to seal. I would just spend $2 and get new o-ring so not to have to worry about it.

I disagree. If it were something somewhere more important maybe but not this and try more like 15
Mine looked great and so I cleaned them and reused.

Its very different from the other seals. Also add shipping and see what you come up with.

What are you talking about? I replaced both shaft seals on either side but the oring serves as a gasket and they looked fine and I wasn't going to spend 20$some on shipping from village Toyota when it looked fine and serves as little more than a gasket between two non moving parts. Its my truck though and I m in school for diesel and work as a mechanic so... :D

It works as seal to not let water/ dirt inside the spindle. You don't have to replaced but did you replace seal between cv and spindle? If yes what was the point if you now have old o ring sealing the other side?
Now if it happens that you need to do water crossing and you have water level up to wheel bearing that thing will most likely fill with water. All those parts are marked non-reusable in FSM for a reason.

I know what it does, I don't agree. Did you even read my post you quoted? In fact if it were realistic I'd wager 100$ that the o-ring would hold a seal in these kind of conditions. It's a simple o-ring between two non-moving parts, and while it's function is integral to keeping the bearings away from water it's not a very complicated thing, like I said -- it acts as a gasket, theres little to go wrong. It's also easy to clean and inspect for damage.

I'll be sure to post up when my bearings go next and let you know what the seals looked like.
