Its called the "Tacoma shake", just like the "Tacoma Tick" and the axle wrap. Its part of the "Tacoma character". You will never totally get rid of it. :) It's just part of the character of these trucks :)

If it was loaded down and had no vibration, could be wheel bearing . If the bearing is slightly worn, when under load it wont wobble as much. Maybe try this...

Go to an empty, huge, wide open parking lot, like a stadium. Get to speed where you feel vibration, make kinda sharp right and left turns, weaving back and forth while maintaining speed. If vibration changes when turning one way, vs the other, could be a wheel bearing. When you turn, swurve, load is shifted back and forth between the bearings.

I still think its just the "Tacoma Shake" but worth a shot :)

Does it make a difference in the vibration if you slowly creep up to 40MPH-50MPH or if you aggresively get to 40MPH-50MPH?

Lets look at some Vibration diagnostics . Anytime someone asks a vibration question , I copy and paste this .
I believe there are at very minimum at least 12 different vibration issues assosiated with the Tacoma and all the vibrations / shudders get mixed into the same pot when members start posting leaving members scratching their heads .

These are some diagnostics to try . If you bring your truck to a shop , they will be trying most of these to narrow your vibration down .
Have you greased your driveline ?http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tec...rks-total.html
Do you know how to grease your driveline properly http://aftermarket.federalmogul.com/...%20FAQ%27s.pdf
Have you slid under the truck and inspected to see if any driveshaft weights have fallen off ?
Have you checked your carrier bearing https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replacing-carrier-bearing.260283/
Does the truck vibrate in park or neutral and does the vibration change with accelerator pedal ? This is a misfire test for your engine
Does the truck vibrate while holding the brakes and hitting the gas - Automatic ? This is also a misfire test for your engine under load
Does the truck vibrate in neutral at a stand still ?or coasting in neutral ?
Does the truck vibrate in 4x4 ?
    Does the truck " Only vibrate " from 1st to 2nd gear ? https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/vibration-when-accelerating-from-stop-anyone-fixed-it.300155/
Does the truck only vibrate in 2 wheel drive ?https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...differential-bearing-vibration-thread.152173/
Does the truck vibrate with the serpentine belt removed ?
Does the truck vibrate cold or hot ?
Does the truck vibrate if you select neutral and coast to a slow roll without using the brakes ? What happens when you turn the truck off in Neutral at highway speed ? Can you still feel the vibration ?
Does the truck clunk over bumps ?https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-loose-bed-design-flaw-explanation.388873/
Does the truck vibrate as you are braking ? When was your last brake job ? Consider the front rotors may be warped or the rear drums are out of round .
Does the truck vibrate with weight in the truck or empty ?
Does the truck vibrate while upshifting ? Have you checked your trans fluid ?
Does the truck vibrate while downshifting ? Have you checked your trans fluid ?
When was your last transmission fluid service ?
Is the vibration caused by your torque converter ? Tapping the brake pedal at highway speeds will release the torque converter clutch . You are not actually hitting the brakes ,but manipulating the brake switch . If the vibration goes away you can expect a misfire or a converter clutch issue .
Read here for more information regarding automatic transmission diagnostics
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...th-pics-for-second-gen-4-liter-trucks.289913/
Now that you have a lift kit installed the truck vibrates . Did you cancel your drive line angles ?
Have you looked at the condition of your tires ? Toyota says to rotate every 5000 miles .Tacoma tires must be road forced balanced using the Haweka adapter on the tire machine [IMG]tsu00296.pdf
When was the last time you rotated your tires ? Are you using LUG centric aftermarket wheels that are incredibly difficult to balance ? have you considered " HUB centric rings " http://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&key...vptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_7ybe1f1pby_e
Have the balance weights fallen off the tires ?

A good vibration technician can tell immediately if your vibration is caused by the rotating speed of your wheels or by the rotating speed of your driveshaft .
If you go through this list carefully , you should be able to narrow down where the problem is .
The proper and only way to test for bad universal joints is with the driveshaft removed . You cant tell if the universal joints are seized or tight spots with the driveshaft on the truck . You may see play in the universal joints , but you wont be able to properly check the u-joints without removing the driveshaft .All it takes to create a vibration is one seized universal cup and there are 4 cups within each joint .
With this said , you cant tell if that cup is seized with the driveshaft connected .
Removing the driveshaft and manipulate each universal joint by hand from side to side feeling for tight spots as you go is the only way to check for bad u joints
If you beleive its bad motor mounts or transmission mounts , grab a big pry bar and pry at the mounts to see if the rubber is torn or weak .

    NOTE!

Testing with no belt, 2 min max!!!! I keep under a min. Then let cool for at least, 30 MINS! Think it took about 8 mins ( just messing around on a 1GR-FE we didnt care about) for engine to heat up enough for temp to get high enough for damage to start to be done!

I just talked to my friend (40 yrs experience) who was with me when when pushed the 1GR-FE with no belt, he reminded me!!!! It was 4 mins, NOT 8 mins!!!!!

Wanted to be sure I corrected that!

I got a 2014 Tacoma last week, it does it at 40 to 45 mph, like a rumble strip. Dealership replaced torque converter today, and said it still does it. I wish someone knew what this was I really love that truck. It is all factory but if so many people have this issue then Toyota has to know what it is that's doing it.

Toyota doesnt really fix transmissions , they just replace them with new .
Is your truck still on warranty ?

The lock up solenoid is most likely plugged up or the valve body could also be worn out .
Its a common problem and the aftermarket pretty much has this issue licked .
I am not sure if a dealership technician would be allowed to work on the valve body .
Changing the converter helps but usually you can fix this without a new converter

After reading every thing that every body has tried to do to solve this shaking problem but none of it solved the problem my wife said and she's no mechanic it's either a burnt valve or a bent piston rod and I agree with her that's what's causing the problem

I have a 2015 4WD 4DR 6cylinder 4.0L with the same problem, vibrates at 35 to 40mph, drop it into fourth and vibration stops. I have had the tires balanced, front end aligned, with no change. I have no idea why they would have a truck in overdrive at 35 to 40mph. I don’t know how programmable these transmission are but I believe this problem would go away if you could change the shift pattern. My old 2004 gave me the option to drag out the gears a little further, that would have been a nice choice on this model. I don’t believe the dealership will do anything about it, they will give you the standard answer of, that’s normal. It may be normal for them but it irritates the hell out of me. Presently I just kick it down into 4th because I find it so annoying. This truck is not the Tacoma of the early 2000’s and I spent $32’000 on this model and it will be my last toyota truck.

When you get up to speed and begin feeling the vibration , what happens when you do a brake tap test ?
Hold your right foot steady on the gas pedal and then using your left foot , gently tap the brake pedal while maintaining your speed .
You are not hitting the brakes , you are manipulating the brake switch which turns the torque converter clutch off .
This is an incredibly easy test when trying to diagnose vibrations .
If the vibration goes away when you tap the brake pedal and then returns shortly after you remove your left foot .... We need to talk more .
If the vibration doesnt go away when you tap the pedal , carry on with driveline diagnostics

replace your carrier bearing if needed. your u-joints might need replacement as well. driveshaft will do a number on comfort if things are out of balance and the items i mentioned are wear items.

I have the same issue on my 2010. I am pleased to find this post and hear how common this is. I thought my auto transmission was shot. This issue pops up in the same part of the road on my way home from work every day. If I shift to 4th gear it goes away. I will try this tapping of the break thing and see what happens. Guess I should check the trans mount. I was thinking this had something to do with the rear wheel bearing. Far from stock truck
