I do some canyoneering in Utah and Nevada. There are a lot of canyons that we won't go into if there is rain within 50 miles in certain directions. It's common to see huge flash floods in canyons without a visible cloud in the sky.

Great write up as usual. I’m digging into this right now.

I needed a little extra spacing because I’m doing a cab mount relocate and 1” body lift at the same time.

Body lift and relocate to fit 37s and a Marlin Crawler. (Before the anti-BL peeps chime in...)

    Death Valley 2018 - Part 5 - Hunter Mountain | Saline Valley | Racetrack

Andy and I passed through Lee Flat along White Mountain Talc Road. We took a 45° turn and were now headed NNE towards Hunter Mountain. We passed by a few artifacts and saw some activity at one of the old Corrals that's still functioning. We climbed about 740' to where the road divides. One leg descends down into Grapevine canyon which leads to Saline. The other leg goes on to Hunter Mountain. From this junction, there is an amazing view over Mill Canyon that descends into Panamint Valley. The Panamint Valley dunes can be seen from here. Careful attention directed into Mill Canyon, evidence can be seen of animal traversal. A beautiful place no doubt--but not a canyon I'd want to climb out of. :D

As we're standing there, what comes around the corner is something truly amazing. A horse drawn wagon! It was going into Saline Valley!

Andy got the scoop on them by talking to one of the scouts. They are the "Death Valley '49ers!" and they were performing the
69th Annual Death Valley '49ers Encampment.

    The Death Valley '49ers

The Death Valley '49ers is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to expand public awareness of Death Valley. We have no headquarters office, equipment, vehicles, paid staff or employees, and we receive no government or other funding.

Death Valley is a highly valued national resource and recreational area that is protected and preserved by the National Park Service and others for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The aim of the Death Valley '49ers is to foster appreciation of Death Valley as a rare desert environment having unique natural and cultural histories, which played an important role in the settlement of the west and the addition of California to the Union.

Special recognition is given to the California bound pioneer wagon parties of 1849-50. Their indomitable will to survive and persevere through the ordeal of that winter serves as an enduring example of the hardy spirit of all Americans who traveled far searching for new and better lives.

The Death Valley '49ers sponsor the Annual Encampment each November to celebrate this pioneer spirit and this special place called Death Valley.

    More info here

Andy and I decided it was best to stay ahead of them. So we fired up our rigs and pointed them down hill as we coursed through Grapevine Canyon and descended into Saline Valley.
We stopped at the junction where Lippincott connects to Saline Valley Rd. We looked for Lippincott mine with binoculars. After a few moments Andy said: "You want to go up Lippincott to Racetrack Valley? I thought about it and said, sure! I've descended twice but not gone up before, so sounded good to me.

We took the trail in 30 minutes. It's got a small rough patch at the bottom and much of it is really off-camber which I don't like so much. We were blessed by passing a very large group of jeeps that were pulled off around 2,800' to examine some mining ruins. Had we encountered them on the trail, it would have been a nightmare and very poor luck as there is nearly nowhere to pass, and reversing on the trail would get technical quick.

Without incident we climbed our way into Racetrack Valley, just in time for lunch.

Somewhere on the trail my skids took a few hits, it might have been the rock garden near Cerro Gordo, or Lippincott.

Poor picture below, but was amusing, nonetheless. :)

After a very relaxing lunch in the shade, we leisurely headed in the direction of the legendary Racetrack Playa.

    I love this place.

Rocks that move in inclement weather.

Of course there was evidence of morons who move the rocks by hand, and disturb the natural flow of things.

    Still, it's a magnificent place.

We had the whole place to ourselves. Not a soul in sight.

Andy wanted to see something at Teakettle Junction so we went there. We passed a group of six outfitted rigs near the pull out and trailhead for Ubehebe Mountain / The Grandstand. Nobody in sight though. We pressed on to the junction.
Andy found what he was looking for.
I reviewed all that was there to see. I know the park service cleans the kettles out every so often. It looked like they had accumulated for the last 1.5 years or so.

I followed Andy's lead into Hidden Valley. I had not yet explored this area of the park, so was glad to check it out.
I'll have to return another day and explore of on foot. Can't wait!
We crossed through and continued on through Ulida Flat--yet another place to revisit.

Okay I just fixed links below in OP (pain) and I realized almost all of them were off-set by 9 pages. And then I figured out @Doording was granted an account erasure sometime in early October which explains all the broken links. Thanks DD! Only 215 more links to fix! I'll miss you buddy! Come back again soon "DoorDing 2.0" ;) :spy:

Once you get the pattern of how many pages off your links are, it becomes a little faster/easier to fix them.

Hey so the fix it once forever solution to these broken links is to not use the dumb-ass beyond comprehension stupid "permalink" that we've all sensibly been using to create our links. That poop-for-brains link includes the effing page number of the thread and breaks when the thread re-paginates due to post deletions.

Anywho, the correct thing to do is use a different link format that doesn't include the page:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/18622284/

instead of the craptacular one that "permalink" provides:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...eep-things-light.409330/page-52#post-18622284

Note it is trivial to convert the suck links into the useful ones. Just change "threads" to "posts" and delete all the redundant crap between that and the post number at the very end. Add a slash to the end.

UPDATE: tcBob fixed the issue site wide, no need to update any links!

I stumbled across your thread after a search for Bilstein 6112, wow! I have spent the past few weeks going through all 219 pages and I must say this has been one of the most well done and helpful build thread I’ve seen. Your mods are spot on with what I want to do with my truck to improve its abilities as a overlanding rig.

Also, thanks to you, @DVexile, and @ETAV8R I have a serious desire to explore Death Valley. I’m about a 2 years from retirement and I’m re-evaluating my retirement road trip to include some serious exploring there. I’ll be hitting you up for info soon LOL.
