Anybody know anything about the corrosion resistant compound Toyota talks about in their frame recall notice? I have an 07 that I bought used with 72K. At the time, I crawled around and had a look at the frame which looked very good and appeared to have been coated with something. Upon receiving the recall notice, I wasn't too concerned until I saw a picture of 2 bad frames that looked pretty good except for a couple of holes in the boxed section. So, today I ran the truck up on ramps and crawled under with a light. There are some places where you can see into the boxed section. I didn't see any rust on the sides or top inside, but there was some on the bottom. It didn't look serious. I suspect that Toyota will pass the frame and simply apply the compound they talk about. Now we all know that spraying gunk on top of rust that's already there isn't going to stop it unless the rust is chemically converted to a different compound. So, is the stuff Toyota uses a product that neutralizes rust or is it just a coating? Anyone know?

Thanks, Glenn. That's a pretty comprehensive pile of info. You must have some interest in the topic.;)

So, it appears that Toyota folks simply spray an undercoating on the frame (and overspray a bunch of other stuff. I guess I'd better apply some rust conversion stuff myself.
