It doesn’t. But it’s just there to remind the people that constantly and errantly say that drums are older tech, that it is in fact newer tech. Having nothing to do with what is better.

You could probably find parts to fix drums easier. Discs have a lot fewer parts and failure is usually a piston boot failure that causes a leak or stuck piston. Drum failure would most likely be a spring and you would have better luck modifying one from another vehicle than fixing a caliper boot. Drums do have pistons though, and a boot failure there will also cause a leak. Unless it was leaking or frozen, I'm not fixing rear brakes on a trail either way.

Perhaps you stopped reading after the first definition. Words often carry more than one meaning.

    From the Oxford dictionary:
“A person who is old-fashioned and fussy.”

That perfectly captures the negative sentiment many people have for drum brakes.

It is, but unless you are a drifter, you usually don't have to change those out, except when changing out rotors and you can keep the system together there if you are careful and lucky. There are benefits to drums, but the benefits of discs outweigh the cons for me.

Tacomas have had rear drums, currently have rear drums, and for the foreseeable future will have drums. So why do people who hate drums buy a vehicle that's known to have rear drum brakes?????? The question should not be drums vs discs. It should be why are people buying what they hate??? This also extends to "camry engines don't belong in trucks" and the ever popular auto trans complaints.

The damn truck has no room for adults in the back seat, can't haul more than a potatoe for payload, can't tow more than a yard cart, the engine is weak, the trans sucks, it has inferior drums, the speakers suck, the head unit/carplay/whatever is lacking/sucks/etc, the Q charger doesn't, fuel economy is worse than a 1/2 ton, floppy hood, frame rust up the wazoo, shocks suck, springs suck, seats are uncomfortable, OE tires are worthless, bed is weak, doors rattle, grease on windows when rolled up, too much chrome, not enough chrome, 3rd brake light leaks, diff howls, TSS unwanted, dealer won't fix my modified truck, too expensive, etc, etc, etc, etc.

So for all you newcomers, the truck sucks. You got that? THE TRUCK SUCKS. You will hate your truck as soon as you drive off the lot. I actually don't know how Toyota manages to sell any at all. It's that bad.

Now maybe there will be a better selection and pricing on the car lot for the 3% of us who actually like our trucks.

So you think the truck is perfect? This is a good truck, but there are things that could be improved. Always. If it was perfect for everyone, we wouldn't need to modify anything ever. You don't buy a vehicle because it's perfect, none are, but because it has the largest set of pros and/or the smallest set of cons for you. Because we can't build a custom truck like we can a house, we buy trucks that are made to satisfy the masses and modify what we can to suit us better. I used to think it was retarded to buy an OR (or a Wrangler, Gladiator, etc) and put tiny street tires on it and never leave pavement. Or huge tires and armor and winches and hi-lifts and never leave pavement. But what I want is not the same as what you want and if they only sold Tacomas or Wranglers to the the 1% of us that modify them and actually use them to their full potential, they would be expensive as fuck because they only sold 300 a year. Car maker's goal is to make the trucks exactly just good enough to sell over the other brands, while paying as little as possible to make them. You get an adjustable seat, they take that transmission cooler. Everyone probably has a few of those gripes on your list, I sure do. That doesn't mean that the pros list of the Tacoma or the cons list of a ZR2 isn't longer. Also, they need to fix that charger.

Also, that's not to say that there aren't people here that can't be satisfied, because that is true. All spectrums are represented here from Toyota can do no wrong, to making 15 warranty claims for the truck just not looking as silver as it did last week.

I would say it’s the perfect platform for what I want in a recreational off road utility vehicle. There are no fundamental components or characteristics I would change.

Never ignore this guy. He is an important component to meltdown threads. Every meltdown thread I’ve been in, he was there. This thread hasn’t melted down, but it might.

I didn't want to! But it was the same thing over and over and over! I was gonna lose it! Kinda like why brake drums over and over and over and over!

I need little more variety! Its the spice of my TW! Pretty sure I ignored him during the Dumbest Salesman.
