Epic Baja trip David! Thanks for sharing. Maybe in a few years I'll be ready to make a baja trip. I have an expanding family so that's my top priority now. :)

Hi Crom, I highly recommend camping as soon as your kids are out of diapers. BAJA is just so wonderful and close to us that we are lucky. Others drive a thousand miles or more just to get to the border. Let me know if you and the mrs. ever consider it and you need any details.

Something related to Baja California... I have a new book on the California missions that for the first time, in one book, includes all 48 California missions and not only the ones in the portion of California the United States acquired in 1848! San Diego was the 19th California mission founded 72 years AFTER the the mission at Loreto (in today's state of Baja California Sur, Mexico) was founded (in 1697)... See: http://oldmissions.com

Wow! What a great trip. Thank you so much for posting, it was like being on a mini vacation for me. I briefly left my cubicle drone life and joined you in the wilds of Baja. Ok, back to work for me....

Thank you... it was a great trip. Writing about it in detail keeps the memory alive and perhaps will inspire some of you to see what all the excitement about BAJA is about! A Baja vacation is both exciting and safe... Leave the drugs and bad attitude at home, and come to Mexico and have some fun! Camping, Four Wheeling, Relaxing, Exploring, Fishing, Hiking, Photography, Beach combing... the list is endless...

    Great write-up!
We drove down in Feb this year in our XJ. Left it down there for next winter at La Paz. Great off-roading, fishing, general lazing around. Just starting to explore it all. But every off-road enthusiast needs to drive the Baja once. Or twice.
Prepping the new Taco for future travels.

If you are looking for places to explore, there is nothing like Baja! I write travel articles for Baja Bound (Mexican Auto Insurance)... You may find some ideas of places to check out in some of them: http://www.bajabound.com/bajatravel/

Thank you for the nice words! Baja is a perfect territory for the Tacoma 4WD... In fact, it was where the TRD idea was born (ie. Ivan Stewart of Baja off road racing fame).

See my BajaBound.com Baja Travel Adventure stories if you want to see more places to explore!: http://www.bajabound.com/bajatravel/

Hey, I took the same picture! Sounds like a great trip, I would have loved to been in the Tacoma and been able to explore more. I've only been there twice and we just went fishing and stayed out on the boat most of the time.

How funny! I see by the overhead power lines, you were just a few more feet down the road.

Fishing is what brought my family to Baja in the 1960's, but exploring has been a passion ever since... and Baja never stops giving us places to explore or things to do (as well as a places to do 'nothing')!!!

Here I am in 1966, in a panga off Cabo San Lucas, catching my first dorado (mahimahi/ dolphinfish)... We had driven over 800 dirt miles and 200 paved miles in our Jeep to get there!

A photo from a couple weeks earlier on that trip:

I was 8 1/2 and have been in love with Baja ever since!
