yuhuh. Question then. So at what point would tire size satisfy you? A person wants 33s to get better clearance over that obstacle over there...but what about THAT obstacle over there? Once you get 40s and drive over a K rail, your next quest is to get 60s so you can drive over a dumpster? I think you all have the “body dysmorphia” that crazy people have. You just can’t stop.

I’m fine with it. My 01 still has OEM rear pads. Fuck other people’s opinions.

 

I am not justifying my view through changing pads, I am justifying it because discs provide better braking than drums. I stated my experience because I am not some kid with a keyboard and no experience to back my opinions. I'm an adult with a lot of experience in the automotive world. I am also saying Toyota needs to fix the engine/tranny/gearing on 3rd gens along with the oil pickup issue on incline, even though some might think it's "just fine". I don't care if sales are good or not, those items need addressing. Although they are good, these trucks can be made better. The powertrain is better on my 17 4runner and it has discs, so they have the technology, and they can build it. Combining the best of the 4runner and Tacoma would make both vehicles better. How do you know that offering discs wouldn't increase sales? I doubt it, but I think it would sell as an option and after a couple years be standard. In my personal order of those "please fix" items 1) oil pickup/return on incline 2) powertrain 3) drum brakes. Normally I would take 2 above 1, but mine shutdown on an incline and would not start until I rolled back down a rock hill with no power steering or brakes.

vs 5 guys who “know better” and mutilate their trucks with every shiny bolt on aftermarket kit designed by industry flunkies that promises something something just because it does something something and now ironically the truck is actually weaker and less reliable...

35-40s are the norm now on big trails. Most trails (that I have personally been on) are not cut where anything larger would really help, and most bigger obstacles have a bypass anyway. I run 33 skinnys on my truck now and may even go to 35s some day, but that is overkill enough for this one. Past that spares get heavy, weak points pop up everywhere and as you fix something with a stronger part, you just move where the break happens. I like trails WAY more then obstacles at an off road park. Yes, parks are fun, but I like wheeling to get somewhere cool that normal people won't ever see. Camping, hunting, and fishing are usually included in my trips. So far, this year we are planning a trip to the High Water Trail in Arkansas, Mark Twain in MO and a bigger trip late summer to Colorado or Morrison. Still working on convincing everyone else on Morrison. The stuff on my truck is there to get me there and home efficiently, my build is pretty minimal. I'm not trying to get over the biggest rock on the trail, I'm trying to get to a camping spot at the end by the lake.

 

But that "giant titanium driver" tho... You gotta learn how to hit a golf ball properly first before that will ever be of any use.

 

Yeah, my golf game is not great. I used to play a lot more, but was never a par player even then. I can drive the cart and drink beer with the best though.

I heard back from UPI today. Their kit is for sale... Their US distributor is Pedders. Same kit.

 

saw that as well. It’s $300 more than SOS’s kit.

 

I just took a look at their kit. Looks like they've made their own backing plate with integral caliper mount. That's how my FROR kit is also.

Anyone here with a TRD Off Road using one of these kits? I'm really curious how well the stock master cylinder works with it.

yah its a deal right now. I was looking into the BBK upgrade as you can bet almost $300 off right now. I have talked with a couple people that have Offroad kits and they love the setups. 1 event has the stoptech upgrades front and rear. I emailed SOS and they said it may have a softer feel but they were not 100% on it. I have spoken with a few others that never upgraded the master and they have been rocking it for years like that. They know it will be better with a new master (older offroad trucks before atrac) but they said they like the brakes way more. they are active/in motorsports so they really get some use out of it.

I was holding off but after chatting with a few people with real use on them I am going to give it a go. I need to see if I can swap my red calipers though for black ones. minor detail but the front are black over red.

I see your in Morgan Hill grab a set and lets install them. time to break out the angle grinder.

 

I just found they sell their backing plate separately, so I bought it. $635

Just need to buy the calipers, shoes, pads, and rotors. I prefer OEM for those
