Downshifting complaint much the same as the A750E
If you guys are having downshifting concerns you have to remember that your injectors shut off when you remove your foot from the gas pedal . Toyota did this to save fuel . Combine this with your torque converter remaining locked up can really be fealt in the drivers seat .
If you are fealing a slight clunk while at a stop where you have to apply more break pedal , get use to it .

SHOULD YOU USE THE PARKING BRAKE WITH AN AUTOMATIC
I use the ebrake every day and I have an automatic transmission. Using the ebrake when parking is recommended in the Toyota manual . Living way up North in the snow as I type this , they use all kinds of salt .Its better to use the ebrake than have it seize up solid and pay $500 bucks to have all the cables replaced when its time to sell the truck.
With this said , using the ebrake keeps the rear brake shoes adjusted properly and saves your front brakes from wearing quickly
You're also being very nice to the parking pawl inside your transmission. Lots of people just jam it into park on an incline and don't ever use the e-brake. Or worse, jam it into park when the vehicle is still rolling. An e-brake cable is a cheap fix compared to a transmission problem.

One thing I am not a fan of is a pre heater and all you 3rd gens have it .
When you start your truck in the morning , the pre heater bypasses the transmission cooler and circulates the fluid leaving the torque converter and directs that fluid back to the transmission pan .
You rely on 1 tiny valve always functioning properly .
What happens when that 1 tiny valve sticks in the open position and you continue driving your truck ?

Title: AB60F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID: ADJUSTMENT

NOTICE:

This transmission requires Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
After servicing the transmission, you must follow the ATF adjustment procedure.
Maintain the vehicle in a horizontal position while adjusting the fluid level.

1. PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES

(a) w/ Trailer Towing System (w/Transmission oil cooler thermostat):

(1) Using compressed air, etc., blow dust off the thermostat cap to clean it.

(2) Using a screwdriver, push the shaft of the thermostat.

HINT:

Pushed amount: 5.5 to 7.0 mm (0.217 to 0.276 in.)
Push the shaft until the screwdriver contacts the step inside the cap.

(3) With the shaft of the thermostat pressed, push a pin into a hole on the side of the thermostat's cap. Insert the pin until it passes through the hole on the other side of the thermostat's cap to fix the shaft in place.

HINT:

Pin diameter: 1.0 to 1.8 mm (0.0394 to 0.0709 in.)


2. BEFORE FILLING TRANSMISSION

When you have replaced the entire transmission, transmission pan, drain plug, valve body and/or torqueconverter, proceed to the "TRANSMISSION FILL" procedures.
When you have replaced the transmission hose and/or output shaft oil seal, proceed to the "FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK" procedures.

3. TRANSMISSION FILL

(a) Remove the refill plug and overflow plug.


(b) Fill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins to trickle out of the

overflow tube.


(c) Reinstall the overflow plug.

(d) Fill the transmission with the amount of fluid listed in the table below.

refill plug.

HINT:

If you cannot fill the listed amount of fluid, do the following below:

(1) Start the engine to idle.

NOTICE:

Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are off.

(2) Move the shift lever through the entire gear range to circulate the fluid.

(3) Wait for 30 seconds with the engine idling.

(4) Stop the engine.

(5) Remove the refill plug.

(6) Fill the transmission with the remaining fluid until the amount in the table has been filled.

(7) Install the refill plug.

4. FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK

NOTICE:

The ATF temperature can be confirmed by using a Techstream.

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / A/T Oil Temperature 1.

(e) Check the ATF temperature.

NOTICE:

If the ATF temperature is above 44°C (111°F), turn the ignition switch off and wait until the fluid temperature drops to between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F).

5. FLUID LEVEL CHECK

NOTICE:

It is necessary to change to temperature detection mode in order to idle the vehicle appropriately.
The ATF temperature must be between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F) to accurately check the fluid level.

(a) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Connect the TC and TE1.

Standard condition:

Indicator lights on the combination meter blink.

HINT:

Also when not using the Techstream. Using SST, connect terminals 13 (TC) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3.

SST: 09843-18040

(b) Start the engine to idle.

NOTICE:

Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are off.

(c) Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then change the gear from 1st to 6th. Then return the shift leverto P.

HINT:

Slowly move the shift lever to circulate the fluid through each part of the transmission.

(d) Move the shift lever to D, and quickly move back and forth between N and D (once within 1.5 seconds) for at least 6 seconds. This will activate the fluid temperature detection mode.

Standard condition:

Indicator light [D] remains illuminated for 2 seconds and then turn off.


(e) Return the shift lever to P and terminate the Active Test on the Techstream.

(f) Using the Techstream, allow the engine to idle until the fluid temperature reaches 37 to 44°C (99 to 111°F).

HINT:

The indicator [D] will come on again when the fluid temperature reaches 37°C (99°F) and will blink if it exceeds 44°C (111°F).

engine idling.


(h) Wait until the overflow slows to a trickle.

NOTICE:

If the fluid does not overflow, do the following below:

(1) Remove the refill plug.

(2) Refill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins to trickle out of the overflow tube.

(3) Wait until the overflow slows to a trickle.

(i) Install a new gasket and the overflow plug.

Torque:

20 N·m {204 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

(j) Install a new gasket and the refill plug.

Torque:

39 N·m {400 kgf·cm, 29ft·lbf}

6. COMPLETE

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.

(c) w/ Trailer Towing System (w/ Transmission oil cooler thermostat):

(1) Remove the pin by pushing the shaft with a screwdriver.

NOTICE:

Make sure the shaft of the thermostat is protruding from the hole on the cap.


(d) Inspect for automatic transmission fluid leak.

The toyota information system contents toyota vehicle repair manual which used to be PDF links, it's now chm mode which is only webpages. I am trying to download the manual for my vehicle in two days and here is the fastest way I figured out.

Please share if you have better idea. I can't make those hyper-link work since they all became image in the pdf files.



Tools you will need


Firefox

PDFCreator

TIS login account ($15/2 days)


Install PDFCreator, create a new profile, change the Auto-save option; Change the filename to <Title>, update the directory for auto-save. You need create a new printer to use this new profile, which can auto save your pdf to particular folder.



Login TIS and open the repair manual, for the first page, make sure you selected the new PDFCreator printer as your current printer and print your first page, double check the pdf file at the auto-save folder and make sure that fits you want. I took the footer and header off so it looks much nicer.


For firefox, type “about:config” in the address bar and add print.always_print_silent as Boolean and set it to true.


Now, for each page you click on the left, there is a print icon on the top right corner, click that will print a new pdf file to the auto-save folder. For each page, you will need two clicks to save to pdf format.


Go through all your pages and hit the printer icon. You should be able to download the repair manual in couple hours. The PDF files will have the full text title in the pdf file name, which you can easily search.


I got my two vehicles' repair manual done in 7 hours.

 

What is the difference between AC60E and AC60F ?

 

2 wheel drive and 4x4 . The extension housing on the rear of the transmission and the output shaft are different

 

Here's a dumb question. Is there a transmission fluid dipstick on the 2016? I can't seem to find mine.

 

Its a sealed transmission meaning no filler tube . The transmission is filled from underneath the truck .

Thanks! Thought my eyes were deceiving me. Mine also has the issue when it's cold and I put it into drive it doesn't seem to engage.. then lurches.

 

Same checking procedure as the 2nd Gen except for one thing. Once you are in AT TEMP CHECK mode you remove the jumper from the OBD2 port. This allows the engine idle control to operate so you can get an accurate reading.
