Went through it all. Here is my experience so far:

    I purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Off-Road RWD V6 3.5 Liter from _____ Auto Center on: 5/7/2021

    Summary
A new pre owned vehicle I purchased is starting peel paint. I contacted the necessary personnel that all led back to holding Toyota responsible. Toyota is refusing responsibility even though there are several thousand complaints on the matter.

    [redacted]

The issue: I've only owned the truck for a few months but recently, the paint has begun to peel back. I took the necessary steps to understand what was truly happening.

    Step 1
I looked into weather being a potential factor ie. snow, ice, rain etc. The condition of the paint should not be affected by any of those elements at least in the symptoms that were being presented.

    Step 2
After determining that it was not user/auto detailer error, I contacted my local auto body shop and had them asses the issue. They determined that the paint peeling off was in fact a factory defect leaving Toyota responsible for the damage.

    Step 3
I contacted my dealership, my local Toyota dealership, my lawyer, and of course at this point the BBB.

My dealership informed me of my warranty and what it covers. Sadly, paint was not listed. They did at least attempt to give me resources to deal with this situation. However, none of the information they provided alleviated my responsibility of the cost.

I then contacted my local Toyota Dealership(s) to no avail. They all pointed fingers at corporate.
    (Longo Toyota: 3534 Peck Rd, El Monte, CA 91731 P: (626) 539-2403)
    (Toyota of Pasadena: 3600 E Foothill Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107 P: (626) 795-9787)

    Step 4
So of course the next logical step was to contact corporate in which I spoke with one rep: Sierra who was relatively detached from my issue. She then recorded my case and issue and mentioned a case manager would be in contact with me within 24hrs. I was delightfully surprised to receive a call from them shortly after speaking with sierra. However, I was met with a general us vs. them response from "Lupita" my case manager. Not only was she incredibly dismissive, she did not want to even pursue a rectification suitable for the peeling paint let alone provide me with some resources to at least take individual action.

    Step 5
After being told by Toyota that it's not their problem after 36,000 miles I called back in an attempt to at least have them hear me. To no avail I was greeted by Halil who is a senior account manager there. Instead of deescalating the situation, he patronized my concern and complaint and told me they're not responsible for a factory defect unless there are enough complaints for it.

I recorded our conversion and if need be can provide it. There are several thousand complaints regarding Toyota Super White code 040 and blizzard pearl code 070 dating all the way back to 2008.
Here are my sources for my claims:
    https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/art...warranty-up-to-14-years-to-fix-peeling-issue/
    https://www.torquenews.com/1083/toy...unced a new,affects nearly 2 million vehicles.
    https://www.toyoheadquarters.com/th...peeling-of-factory-applied-paint-remedy.1725/

My Toyota Tacoma was manufactured within the same date as the above vehicles, it was manufactured in the same facility, it even has the same color cod 070 as the: "Toyota White Paint Recall (CSP) ZKG Coverage for Peeling of Factory-Applied Paint Remedy" cars included in said program.

Why is Toyota refusing to accept responsibility for a factory issue they caused? Why am I being treated like an enemy instead of a customer, and furthermore, why is it this difficult to be heard over a $5,000 problem that is relatively large to me yet incredibly small for the conglomerate giant Toyota?

Sorry for the long-winded text. Just wanted to post it here for others as a road map.

I suggest both of you contact headquarters and go through the same process I did. The more pressure, the more likely they will accept responsibility. Hell, if you guys leave me your vins I'll contact on your behalf. I can't believe a multi-billion dollar car company is refusing to acknowledge this.

You can try calling corporate. It may help it might not everyone’s experience varies. Toyota replaced a vehicle for me earlier last year with a new one due to an issue I Had and it was a pleasant experience. Some people don’t have good experiences. Doesn’t hurt to try though.

Absolutely, I spoke with corporate. They were combative. I had to file a complaint with the BBB.

My 2017 is peeling at the rear door, right next to the weather stripping. Fingers cross, I'm taking it to the dealer this week to see if they will take care it.

I posted on a similar thread last weekend about my 2017 TRD Sport with 48k miles. I contacted Toyota Brand Management and was immediately told that my truck was out of warranty. They opened a case and referred me to my local dealer for an appointment. I left the dealer a message yesterday, but haven’t heard back.

I have paint peeling behind the passenger side window on the driver’s side, inside the engine bay on the driver’s side, and on the front/side panels (where the panel meets the windshield). I noticed a chip behind the window and remembered seeing past threads on TW. I found the other spots after washing and inspecting the rest of the truck.

This is a known issue, and there is an existing recall on several Toyota and Lexus models with white (super and pearl) paint. The Tacoma isn’t included, which is insane. It’s the same paint. Toyota needs to fix this problem for its customers.

Gave her a wash yesterday and notice the peeling has has started.
Already went to dealer and reported the issue.
Manager took photos and is going to call me next week.
Either they are going to eat the cost or I am going to have to make a decision.

Affected spots: Rear Passenger Door, Driver side body panel near A pillar and Passenger side body panel near A pillar

Same problem on my 2017 Tacoma paint 040. I opened a report with Tacoma brand management, if you have the same problem call and report it, only way we get it fixed.

A update on my Tacoma. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone in the South Shore MA area.

I brought it to Sullivan Brothers Collision Center MA (Toyota Collision Center). Spoke with Kyle Dewing the manager, who instructed me to call corporate. He expressed this was the first Tacoma he had seen with the issue but confirmed it was a factory defect. He took images and sent me on my way.

I called corporate who couldn't have been less apologetic and helpful. They told me I have to pay out of pocket to fix the "manufacturing defect" and that they will reimburse me if a service campaign ever comes out.

I called Kyle back to get an estimate and he expressed his disgust with the situation. Kyle also informed me another Tacoma came in with the same issue. He said he is going to see a local warranty rep in a few days and said he will show him pictures of my truck to see if they could get a claim for it.

A week or 2 later Kyle called me back and said he got a Goodwill Service Claim for my Tacoma.

I am extremely greatful for everything Kyle Dewing did for me. He he went out of his way to resolve my situation. Upon dropping my truck off, Kyle even said he would address paint chips and other imperfections while it is in the shop free of charge. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

My Tacoma is currently in the shop having both front fender panels and rear passeger door repainted. If there are any issues I will provide an update.
