    I picked up my 2001 Double Cab SR5 TRD 4x4 in January of 2014. I've always liked the Tacoma and I always knew that I would end up getting one, but when this one came up for sale, I knew I had to get it. Before this, I had a 1976 FJ40 and then a 1999 RX300, but when I got my Tacoma, I saw so much potential in it and then I knew that I could have a lot of fun with this truck.

    Recently I turned 18, and what did I ask for? Sliders!

    I knew that my Tacoma would soon follow the footsteps of my father's legendary FJ Cruiser (SACDFJC) and I knew that I would have to protect the body from the rocks that my truck would soon see.

    My father's FJC has Demello Off-road sliders and they've lasted since he built it. So, this was a rather easy decision for me to make when choosing a company to order sliders from. Jason, at Demello Off-road, fortunately had a set of sliders for the first gen Tacoma at his shop that he was trying to get rid of and as soon as he got word from my father that I was in the market and that my birthday was coming up, he packaged and sent them up immediately.

    These are the sliders and when I got them, I went straight into installing them on my truck.

    I have to say, I'm always pleased with what Jason makes and I'm very happy with the turnout of the sliders! I do need to drill the holes for the bolts that are unable to be installed without it the drilled holes, but that will be for another day.

    I have to throw a big thanks to Jason from Demello Off-road for such a wonderful product and a special thanks to my father purchasing and allowing me to be able to build my truck into what I want.

    I tell you, I would but the front coilovers are the only parts that are currently here. I'm going to order rear shocks soon, but I really need to make my mind up on what leaf springs I'm going to go with. I'm pretty set on either Deaver J59s or Old Man Emu Dakars. I'm just working out the smaller details at this point.

    It took forever for me to decide on what leaf springs to put in the back of my Tacoma, but I've decided to go with Dakars since they'll support weight then the Deavers, and since I do plan to invest in a rooftop tent sooner or later. It will help a lot more when I have a bit a weight in the bed of the truck.

    With lifting the truck, I have everything in a spreadsheet that I would like to invest in and I plan to start ordering parts rather soon. What I'll order and when I'll order, I have yet to know, but I do plan to have my Tacoma lifted, hopefully, by the end of the June or beginning of July. It could end up being later, or sooner, if something interferes with my schedule.

    Thanks. Just like you, it was rather hard for me to choose what I wanted to go with until I drove my father's Tacoma a few times, which has all ICON parts for the suspension. Ride was great on road and I've heard many great things about it off-road. For the leaf springs, I knew it was either between Dakar or Deaver, but my father had Deavers on his FJC before he linked the rear. Consistently, he told me that I would have to contact Deaver to get leaf spring that wouldn't fail on me. Plus, the Dakars were quite a bit less the Deavers, so that influenced the decisition a bit more.

    All in all, I'm happy with what I've chosen and I can't wait to get all the parts for my truck. Varying when that will be, I would like to say maybe middle of July, but I don't know. I'll just have to wait and see.

    Dang Id hate to wait that long for all the parts, Id have to get them all at once lol. It was bad enough waiting for my full kit to come in. Looking like you got a good setup started, cant wait to see it on the truck

    It does suck to wait, but I know the wait is worth it. Give or a take a few weeks and I should have my truck lifted. By then, I will definitely will know that the wait was worth it.

    Got some more parts today for the lift kit... All I need is the rear shocks, which I should be ordering rather soon, and then it's lifting time!

    Lesson learned: Make sure to buy two of the bushing sets when buying the Dakar leaf springs. If you only buy one, then you have only enough bushing for one leaf spring.

    So, I was going to wait until next week to install my lift kit, but I was bored and had nothing to do and that boredom lead to the lifting of my truck, despite not having my rear shocks. Shocks should be here Tuesday and I'll install them when I get them.

    Here we go. Here's the old setup in the front:

    I know it's so highly debated, but I also installed a diff drop while at it.

    Overall, I'm very happy with the way the lift kit came out. I'm liking the new stance that the truck has now. Drove it for a bit afterwards and it rides very well, but it does sway a bit on the bends. I sure the rear shocks will help a ton with the rear and the way it rides.

    Installed the new extended brake line for the rear today. Now to wait for the rear shocks.

    I'll have pictures up when I get the rear shocks installed.

    Rear shocks finally came in. To be 100% honest, I was too excited to finally have the suspension done, so I ripped out the shocks from the boxes and didn't look to see which was which. I quickly solved that after 10 minutes. Anyway, here are the rear shocks...

    Like a said in a previous post, I extended the rear brake line. This was just a spare that my father had around from when he built SAC'D FJC.

    Sooo... The rear axle is completely dropped and the brake line still has a lot of slack. 25 inches might be a bit overkill but it works, most importantly.

    As a bit of a hint to what to see later this afternoon, I got a little something something from BAMF.

    Finished up the suspension today with BAMF's BPV Bracket.

    Not the prettiest, but it works. May have had a few issues along the way, but I'm happy that I finished it with plenty of time to spare.

    As a small side note, now that I've installed the rear shocks, I believe that the rear has been raised even more now.

    It might be just me, but I'm going to leave it as is for now until I get bumpers and skid plates and then I'll start to adjust the suspension. I might invest in 4crawler Axle Relocation Plates, since the rear wheels do seem further forward than before, but until then, I've got a lot of time to think of what I really want to do to my truck next.
